Sunspot on the Sound - Rowayton Daily Paintings by Gretchen Kelly

8"x24" ink
This is the view looking from the Belle Island bridge towards Sheffield Island. My idea was certainly to paint a monochromatic seascape. I was intending to use a sepia color. But I came across all my ink sample colors from Goullet Pen and I couldn't resist using the Mahogany color ink. It looks very magenta and not as brown as I thought it would be but I like it. Then it got me on the track of painting more sea scenes in colors rather than black or sepia. I'll be posting those in the next several days.

$300.

One of my favorite paintings is "Rainy Day Boston" which Childe Hassan painted in 1885 in a brownish red/black tonalisted style (some recent Turner exposure in Europe)--your painting reminds me of Childe. Nicely done.
